chicago designated rehearsal log

The rehearsals have tended to go well, if not for a few hiccups and delays by curse left and right (really, he should have taken that into account) and Lorne's been very happy with his turn out so far. There have been issues, sure. But the old saying holds true, and Lorne has faith in his little actors.

The auditorium shows the signs of their previous get togethers, with scripts laying in various places, left over water bottles and snacks throughout the seats and the lights are beginning to warm up the spaces on stage. His clipboard in hand, Lorne checks off his to-do list as each one is done or not, grumbling quietly when a problem arises and setting off to take care of it readily.

[ooc: Open log for rehearsals, for like, ever. Ie, this will stand as a place to hold rehearsal action for not just a single rehearsal date, rather you may play multiple and different rehearsal nights if you'd like, but make sure you specify in the subjects so nobody gets crossed wires.

Please take the opportunity to tag into started threads and hijack at will. I forgot to put one up when I'd mentioned it before, but we can thread out little scene rehearsals if any of you are inclined. Running lines? Practicing a new dance move or annoying someone with your trumpet? Go for it. Crew is also welcome to pop in to bother Lorne about how they don't have the right materials or how the lights should be working properly or to, say, get confirmation on a costume or something. If you'd like to tag but can't come up with anything to start with, let me know and I can send Lorne whining and complaining after your character for a multitude of reasons, that's the beauty of playing a loudmouth queeny bastard ;). I've started a few topic threads but by no means do you have to stick to rping with me in them - partner off, make some new friends but for the love of the PTB have a little fun.

Also, any newcomers and passersby that just want to show up and watch or even to be part of the cast somehow are more than welcome - tag them in approaching Lorne about a part, and let me know so I can add them to the castlist. ^^ I encourage you to TRACK THIS POST, but obviously I can't force you all into anything. Unless I pout, which none of you want - it's scary.]

Inara has been going over lines until her head aches so she eventually puts them aside and wanders back to the quiet behind the stage. She catches sight of Justin there, taking notes. He really is very fastidious about his job.

"Are you enjoying yourself or is it all work?"

Justin recognizes Inara instantly although he can't remember speaking to her directly (it is, after all, easier to observe than to interact). He doesn't know much about theater, but she seems good.

Honestly, it hadn't occurred to him to enjoy himself. "It's not work if it's a voluntary position." That's not a particularly good way to continue a conversation. Awkwardly, he adds, "And you? You seem--from what I can hear, you sound... you sing well."

They've spoken on the network before but never in person. It's her first experience with the theater as well but then her job is very much theater in a way.

"Well...no but since it is voluntary enjoying it makes it that much easier." She ducked her head, smiling at his compliment. "Thank you. I enjoy singing. And it's my first time acting but from what I can tell you're doing an excellent job with stage direction. You're very dedicated."

"I suppose so," he replies, nodding. Justin studies his notepad to avoid anything crazy... like eye contact. Inara's nice enough, but she's pretty. Pretty members of the fairer sex are, regardless of the situation, difficult to talk to. "You're welcome. And thank you. It's organization... nothing challenging."

"I think that depends a great deal on the person doing the organizing," Inara laughs softly. She tilts her head, noticing the way the boy doesn't make eye contact with her. She has to sit on her fingers, keeping her companion training to herself so that she doesn't reach over and place them under his chin, lifting his gaze up to hers. He's not a client, even if she could help him with the confidence issues she's fairly certain are tied to the lack of eye contact.

"I've a number of friends who find it greatly challenging."

Justin doesn't know what to make of this. Really, it's glorified list-making; he's very good at that and doesn't consider it a viable talent. It's not like singing or acting. "It's a learned skill--organization. Anyone can be good at it."

"In theory," Inara admits with a nod. "I think it's easier for some people than others."

"Do you think the same is true with acting and singing?"

Inara considers his question for a moment. "No. Not really. I think some people have the talent for it or they don't. Raw talent can be refined but if it's not there, it can't be cultivated."

There went any dreams of being a singer or actor (not that they were professions Justin was apt to pursue). "You said you enjoy singing. Did you sing where you're from?"

"Only to myself," Inara tells Justin with a smile. "I'm not quite good enough to be a professional and to be honest, I wanted a profession with a good deal more stability than professional songstress."

"That's sensible. Success in fields like that takes as much luck as talent."
